ERM is hiring a Wetland Biologist to perform biological surveys and prepare documentation in support of permit applications for projects located in Northern California. The successful candidate must be trained and experienced in the performance of wetland delineations in California, have strong botanical knowledge, and be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate. The role requires technical skills, as well as organizational, and communication skills. Strong writing skills are essential, and prior experience preparing permit applications and drafting biological analyses for CEQA documents is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform wetland delineations.
Perform biological surveys for sensitive CA species (including botanical).
Perform nesting bird surveys.
Electronic data collection.
Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection.
Compile data into reports suitable for submission to regulatory agencies.
Other duties as assigned or required, including supporting environmental impact analyses.
REQUIREMENTS:
3+ years of experience in field biology.
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
Certified wetland delineator through the Society of Wetland Scientists 40-hour wetland delineation course, such as those offered by the Swamp School, Wetland Training Institute, or similar
Two years of experience as a wetland delineator in a California mapping waters of the U.S., waters of the State, and CDFW jurisdiction
Working knowledge of the permitting and mitigation requirements for Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404, State Water Board, and CDFW
Experience identifying wetland and riparian plant species, wetland soils, and wetland hydrology indicators
Experience with biological surveys for CA species, in particular botanical species.
Experience drafting biological analyses and other documentation in support of permit applications.
Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and/or general bird identification skills a plus.
Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
Must have a strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
Willingness and ability to travel with overnight stays possible.
Demonstrated independent and effective problem solving and decision making skills.
A strong commitment to safety and safety procedures.
Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to pass pre-hire background check and drug test.
